Geriatric Social Worker

My role as a social worker specializing in care for older adults is to assist with addressing challenges that often come alongside the aging process. As we age, it is important to maintain our independence in the community. I provide patients with support and resources that enable them to maintain and often regain that independence.

Some of the concerns I often address with patients and their families include access to aging and disability resources, assistance with food insecurity or utility payments, connection to Alzheimer’s and dementia support, and drafting advance directives and powers of attorney. Many patients do not realize the available resources, so it my responsibility – and privilege – to inform them of their options, assist them (often with their families) in deciding what best fits their needs, and connect them to appropriate resources.

The highlight of my job at Legacy is building relationships with patients and their families and helping to ease some of the everyday burdens they have been struggling with. I was raised until the age of 13 by my grandparents, who I was very close with, so working with seniors is like reconnecting with my grandparents. I champion and support every patient who comes to see me, ensuring I connect them with every available resource for the best quality of life possible.
